Overview

We are in search of a senior web developer to join our growing technology team. Founded by industry veterans, GovHawk provides personalized state and federal legislative and regulatory tracking solutions for government affairs professionals. We work organizations of all types including associations, non-profits, corporations, consultancies, law firms, and government agencies.

This position works with other developers, the CTO, and other members of the GovHawk team to develop front-end software, improve back-end processes, and maintain and upgrade our technology infrastructure. This is a full-time salaried position. Qualifying candidates will have the option to work in Washington, D.C. area or from a suitable home-office location within the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Architecture and development of software (e.g. database systems and API’s)

  • Produce clean, efficient code based on specifications and deadlines

  • Integrate software components and third-party programs

  • Verify and deploy programs and systems

  • Troubleshoot and upgrade existing software

  • Gather and evaluate feedback from business stakeholders and users

  • Recommend and execute improvements to codebase and software stack

  • Create technical documentation for reference and reporting

Required Skills & Capabilities

  • Minimum of four years of experience as a software developer, engineer, or similar role

  • Expert knowledge of PHP, JavaScript, SQL (MySQL or PGSQL preferred), HTML, and CSS

  • Functional knowledge of Python, and the Bash Shell

  • Experience with Linux systems administration, including backup and recovery tools, cluster management tools, and general troubleshooting

  • Experience with Git, and bug-tracking tools such as Gitlab, Github Issues, or Jira.

  • BSc/BA in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience

  • Ability to learn new technologies

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Resourcefulness and troubleshooting aptitude

  • Keen attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team

  • Self-motivation with excellent organization and follow-up skills
